    Five members of a family were killed in a road accident on the Hazara Motorway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haripur district late on Monday night, according to Rescue 1122. Faraz Bilal Sidiqqui, the spokesperson for Rescue 1122 in Haripur, told Dawn.com that the accident took place when a trailer en route to Rawalpindi collided with a car near Maqsood interchange on the motorway. “As a result, five members of a family, including three men and two women, were killed,” he said. Sidiqqui added that rescue personnel shifted the dead bodies to a type-D hospital in Havelian. Accidents are common on highways and motorways across Pakistan, caused by reckless driving, speeding, driver fatigue, and poor vehicle maintenance. Poor road conditions contribute to mishaps, while weak enforcement of traffic laws allows violations to go unchecked, worsening the situation.     Five people drowned as a boat capsized in the Chenab River in the Jalalpur Pirwala area of Punjab’s Multan district on Saturday amid a flood evacuation, according to officials. Multan Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wasim Hamid Sindhu and City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar later reached the site for an inspection and were briefed by officials present there. “The causes of the boat accident are being carefully examined. Initially, five deaths, including children on board the boat, have been confirmed,” DC Sindhu was quoted as saying in a statement. A statement from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also put the toll at five. He ordered the rescue authorities to immediately intensify the search operation. “Rescue operations are being carried out to search for more people on board the boat,” Sindhu said.     SUKKUR: Five unidentified bodies, which after rise in water level came with the flow, were taken out at Sukkur Barrage the other day. According to details, in a single day, five bodies were spotted stuck in different gates of Sukkur Barrage. The Rohri police, with the help of Rescue 1122 divers, could only retrieve one body due to a jurisdictional dispute between Sukkur and Rohri police. The body, which was retrieved from Gate No. 62, was transferred to Rohri Taluka Hospital. Due to the dispute, two bodies remained trapped in Gate No-35 and one each in Gate No.27 and Gate No.46. Later, those bodies were taken out when the district administration, along with the Rescue 1122 divers, arrived at Sukkur Barrage. The bodies had started decomposing.     An assailant opened fire at a school van injuring six people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Battagram district, police said on Tuesday. Battagram police spokesperson Gul Nabi told Dawn.com that the school van was coming from the Pirwahari area when it was attacked. “Five students and the van driver were injured in the incident,” he added. The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Battagram, he continued, adding that one person, who was in critical condition, was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad. “A first information report [FIR] was lodged and efforts to arrest the suspect were underway,” Nabi added. According to Kuzabanda Station House Officer (SHO) Amjid Khan, the suspect’s motive behind the incident was “personal vendetta” against the van driver. “The shooter opened fire, recklessly endangering the lives of the children onboard,” he said.
