More than two-thirds (68.6%) of Romanians living abroad do not have any form of insurance in Romania, not even the mandatory home insurance, according to a nationwide online survey initiated by Allianz-Tiriac, despite the fact that nearly a quarter say they own a house or apartment in the country, and approximately 13% still own a car left to their family.
Allianz-Tiriac, the second largest player on the market, reached a volume of underwritten gross premiums of RON3 billion in 2022, up over 47% versus 2021, and an operating profit of RON250 million, Virgil Soncutean, CEO of Allianz-Tiriac, told a press conference.
Virgil Soncutean, the Romanian executive who has been running the operations of Allianz-Tiriac since 2016, was nominated for a third term at the helm of the insurer.
Allianz-Tiriac ended the first quarter of 2021 with gross written premiums from health insurance of RON41.1 million, 11.4% lower than in the year-ago period and remained the leader of the health insurance market, Romania’s Financial Supervisory Authority data show.
Allianz-Tiriac, the third largest insurer in Romania, ended 2020 with RON153.8 million net profit, 1.3% higher than in 2019, which makes it the most profitable insurer of all general and life insurance companies in the country.
The leader of the health insurance market in Romania in 2020 was Signal Iduna, with RON126 million gross written premiums, an increase of 27.3% on 2019, followed by Allianz-Tiriac and Groupama.
