Fast-food restaurant chain McDonald’s, present locally in a franchise system, is accelerating expansion in Romania, aiming to open nine units in 2025.
McDonald’s Romania, leader of the restaurant market, ended 2022 with EUR297 million, up around 28% from 2021.
McDonald’s Romania, the largest restaurant chain on the local market, saw turnover go up by almost 40% in 1H/2021 to EUR110 million and should the pace be maintained, the company’s turnover is likely to near RON1.2 billion, a record high for the 25 years of local presence.
McDonald’s posted almost EUR110 million revenue in the first half, an increase of 38% on the year-ago period.
Premier Restaurants Romania, which operates McDonald’s restaurants in Romania, is starting a recruitment campaign across the country, offering over 1,000 jobs in 27 cities and towns in which it operates, among which capital Bucharest, Constanta, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Oradea, Sibiu and Iasi, including for the new openings already announced, such as in Zalau.
McDonald’s restaurant sales in Romania dropped 8% in 2020 to little under EUR180 million, compared with EUR194 million before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Premier Restaurants, the company operating the McDonald’s franchise in Romania, will be opening a drive-thru restaurant in Zalau (Salaj Cunty), in September 2021, per a press release by Zalau municipality.
McDonald’s restaurant chain will continue development in Romania in 2021, but the figures depend on the pandemic, says Paul Dragan, who took over as CEO from Daniel Bloaje this summer.
