NATO understands the frustration and desperation of the political leadership and people of Ukraine over the barbaric actions of the Russian army against the civilian population and is responding to this situation by increasing military aid to Ukraine.
The decision on whether to apply for membership in NATO is a sovereign right of Ukraine, which NATO allies will respect, but Russia has no right to veto such a process.
NATO allies will continue to provide Ukraine with political, material, and financial support, as well as critically important equipment, to help the country realize its right to self-defense.
NATO will not close the sky over Ukraine as this step will mean entering into a military conflict with Russia which will endanger the lives of millions of Europeans.
